Not for Sale: Promoting Public Solutions in Today's Alberta

 Featuring Keynote Speaker

Avi Lewis

Award-winning journalist and filmmaker

April 4 in Edmonton

On April 4-6, Public Interest Alberta hosted Not for Sale, a conference about the many faces of privatization and how to promote public options in today's Alberta. Not for Sale featured local, national and international leaders in advocacy and research.

Presentations by international guests Allyson Pollock (P3s/PFIs) and Deborah Brennan (Childcare) are now available (click the highlighted names to access).

Allyson Pollock is one of the world's leading researchers of P3s, called PFIs in the United Kingdom, and has convincingly demonstrated that the public-private partnership model is more costly, less efficient and less accountable than public service provision. Allyson;s presentation focused principally on health care P3s, an issue of increasing urgency in Alberta.

Deborah Brennan is a leading Australian public policy researcher, and has been a well-informed critic of the corporatization of childcare in Australia and of its consequences for families and children in need. Her presentation traced the development of the corporate childcare model in Australia and drew valuable comparisons to the Alberta context.
