EDMONTON—Public Interest Alberta is pleased to announce that Linda McCulloch (formerly Linda Sloan) has been elected its new Chairperson. McCulloch is a Registered Nurse, former Edmonton City Councillor, President of the Alberta Urban Municipalities Association, and Member of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta.

“Public Interest Alberta has played a vital role in challenging and disclosing undemocratic processes including the privatization of public entities and general public issues like seniors care,” says McCulloch.  “Citizens should have access to information that is transparent, is unbiased, and discloses the full facts. Public Interest Alberta plays an important role in our province to advocate on these issues. It is an honour to follow in the large footsteps of Larry Booi and to serve on the Board of such an important organization.”

Larry Booi, who has been the Chairperson of PIA since 2007, is continuing on the Board of Directors but has decided to step down from the role of Board Chair.

Booi says, “I am delighted that Linda has agreed to act as Board Chair of Public Interest Alberta. Her experience, commitment, and skills are a superb fit with the advocacy mandate of PIA. She has served as an elected representative at both the municipal and provincial levels, knows how to make a difference, and has a well-earned reputation for intelligence, courage, and integrity. We are most fortunate to have her taking on this advocacy leadership position in our province.
