Public Interest Alberta respects your right to privacy and is committed to maintaining your confidence and trust. Our Privacy Policy has been updated, and our programs reviewed to ensure that we are compliant with Canada 's Personal Information and Protection and Electronic Documents Act.

Our website includes features that are designed to enable you to take action and help advocate for public interest issues in Alberta. We send messages directly to political decision makers. Because of this, the site requires some personal identification in order to be effective and considered legitimate by decision makers. This information is required on correspondence with decision makers to authenticate your letters, and to receive a written response. Public Interest Alberta works collects this information in a database, and saves it on a secure server. We do this so that when you return to Public Interest Alberta’s site to take action again, we can "auto-fill" the portion of the letter that requires your contact info. You can disable this function by "unchecking" the field marked "Remember me on this computer"* or by disabling your "cookies."

* This could represent a security or privacy risk if you share a computer or use public computers. We will delete all your personal information immediately upon request.

On every Public Interest Alberta action letter and in the "join" section of our web site, you are provided the option to become a member of Public Interest Alberta. If you choose to become a member, the personal information you provide is stored in a secure location and is accessible only by designated staff. It will never be sold. We will not disclose this information to others except to send it, along with your message, to the targeted officials you have chosen to communicate with through our systems at your request.

When you become a member you will receive updates, action alerts and newsletters from us. We endeavour not to send more than one email alert to you each week. These alerts may contain an appeal for donations. Public Interest Alberta will generally not send more than 4 action alerts a year that are dedicated specifically to fundraising.

You can view and change the information that Public Interest Alberta has retained by visiting the member login section of our web site or by e-mailing our office at [email protected]. These requests are subject to Section 9 of the Personal Information and Protection and Electronic Documents Act, and may take up to 30 days to be fulfilled.

All information remains confidential and is not shared or sold by Public Interest Alberta. You will always have the option of unsubscribing from mailings lists, and on request, Public Interest Alberta will be pleased to erase all record of your personal information from our secure server.

Public Interest Alberta may contact you by mail using the information you have provided us in the future for information about our campaigns, fundraising and general outreach purposes. From time to time, Public Interest Alberta may trade your name with other carefully screened, like-minded organizations form the social justice or environmental community for limited use. This use includes fundraising appeals. We do this in order to expand our opportunity to serve Albertans and people from around the world and provide you with new opportunities to get involved in the effort to promote the Public Interest. If you don't want your name to be traded, please contact us at [email protected]. Be sure to provide your full name, so we can make a notation in our file about your request.
