Community Human Services & Poverty

Overview

In 2008, Public Interest Alberta reframed its previous work on establishing a living wage (learn more about our previous Living Wage advocacy and publications) to include addressing the crisis in community human services, and to focus comprehensively on the complex issue of poverty in Alberta. The Living Wage Taskforce was renamed Community Human Services & Poverty, and PIA is continuing actively to advocate for fair wages, support for much-needed human services in our communities (see our new Albertans Who Care website), and the campaign to make Alberta poverty-free.

Campaigns

Make Alberta Poverty-Free

On November 24, 2009, Public Interest Alberta and Edmonton Social Planning Council released a report, We Must Do Better: It's Time to Make Alberta Poverty-Free. The report calls for establishing a comprehensive strategy to eliminate poverty in Alberta, and PIA's Campaign to Make Alberta Poverty-Free is asking all Albertans to add their voice and support.
