Don't Cut Us Out: New Campaign Demands Investment - Not Further Cuts - in Post-Secondary Education
Alberta's post-secondary education system will play a vital role in securing a prosperous future for our province, especially in the midst of an economic crisis that has left many returning to school to gain the skills they need to thrive. Unfortunately, PSE is facing cutbacks that threaten students, faculty, staff and the quality of education. Public Interest Alberta's PSE task force is demanding that the government invest in post-secondary education, and in Alberta's future.

A number of media conferences to signal the launch of the campaign have been held on September 15 at institutes, colleges and universities across the province to bring attention to the dire lack of support for PSE.

Students, staff and faculty are already being affected by cuts to the system, and more damaging cuts are on the way. The government of Alberta should be investing in its students and educational institutions, especially in light of the economic crisis, in order to secure a bright, prosperous future for our communities and our province.

It is Time to Invest in Post-Secondary Education

To build Alberta's future we must act now. This government must invest in universal access to childcare, fund quality resources in K-12 and create an accessible system for all in post-secondary education. Public Interest Alberta's task forces on education, childcare and post-secondary education have joined together to bring attention to these needs across our education system.
Campaign BackgroundPublic Interest Alberta held a series of eight forums and a major conference on post-secondary education in 2006, culminating in the full-length discussion document
Where to From Here? A Vision and Plan for Post-Secondary Education in Alberta. We heard from articulate and concerned students who value post-secondary education and are distressed that so many unnecessary barriers and roadblocks are put in their way - as one student said, "it shouldn't have to be this difficult to get an education." We also heard from faculty members who are fully committed to providing a high quality education, but are too often being denied the support and tools to do so.
Based on this input, PIA’s task force has identified four key areas of concern, and has proposed a vision for improving Alberta’s post-secondary system in each of these areas. Click on the links below to read more, and then
