An Edmonton city councillor says executives at city-owned utility Epcor are overpaid, which is taking money away from other municipal priorities.

With finances tight at city hall and across the province, Coun. Michael Janz said in a blog post last week the “excessive compensation” paid to top Epcor leaders shouldn’t be immune from scrutiny and cuts. Janz wants to see senior executive pay reviewed to align more closely with the pay earned by high-ranking city administrators.

“When I see millions of dollars being spent at the top on the senior executives, I see millions of dollars that could be used for another purpose such as housing or offsetting the tax burden,” he said in an interview. Read more →
