The Office of the Information and Privacy Commissioner of Alberta has opened an investigation into Edmonton landlords allegedly distributing personal information about a tenant on social media, the Edmonton Journal reports. The complaint came on the heels of hundreds of Edmonton residents reportedly being listed on a “do not rent” list that was allegedly circulated by landlords on Facebook, which was also brought to the OIPC by the advocacy group Public Interest Alberta. OIPC spokesman Scott Sibbald said tenant blacklists are “likely illegal” and may violate Alberta’s Personal Information Protection Act. Read more →
