Edmonton’s council demonstrated renewed interest in housing and homelessness during the election. That’s why it was so disappointing to watch council vote down Coun. Anne Stevenson’s motion to release community revitalization levy funds from a single pedway and greenscaping for a private residential development toward affordable housing and public infrastructure.
On the bright side, council’s debate this week demonstrates the clear need to explore every last public policy, funding envelope, fiscal instrument, partnership, and intergovernmental agreement, to realign these tools to tackle the housing crisis. Read more →
