Public Interest Alberta *actually* wants to hear from Albertans to develop the Budget 2025 that people want and deserve.

Albertans’ perspectives were ignored last budget cycle, despite more than 17,913 people submitting online surveys. What’s more, Premier Danielle Smith and her Finance Minister, Nate Horner, won’t release the full results of those surveys or the surveys completed regarding Albertans’ strong preference to stay in the CPP. That is why Public Interest Alberta is embarking on its own engagement process, open to all Albertans, with a commitment to release the full results of its findings.

Albertans can provide their thoughts and ideas on more than the carbon tax and Justin Trudeau, by responding to questions that focus on community, pensions, public services, housing, and a strong economy. They can also speak directly to PIA’s Executive Director and policy experts at a virtual townhall to be held early in the new year (stay tuned to our website for more information).

PIA collects feedback from all Albertans, not just friends and insiders like Stephen Harper. Albertans can also send fulsome feedback and submissions on behalf of their organizations. All feedback will be shared directly with PIA staff and leadership, and also shared back to Albertans themselves, ensuring a transparent and accountable process.

From there, PIA will develop Alberta’s first ever “peoples’ budget” that puts Albertans first – building back our social safety net, our Alberta advantage, and planning for a future that recognizes our strong position in Canada and the world.

“Each year, the Minister and Premier write their budget after ignoring thousands of Albertans’ voices. We want to change that by writing a budget *with* Albertans. We need to build a budget for people, not for friends and insiders, and that’s what we’re going to do.”

Bradley Lafortune, Executive Director of Public Interest Alberta

The online survey and submission portal will be live by Friday December 6th and open until Jan. 12 – the same date as the GOA’s process. A virtual town hall will be held in the new year and all Albertans will be invited to join and help build the peoples’ budget. Stay tuned to the PIA website at www.pialberta.org for more information .

Alberta’s budget must be released before the end of February each year.
