Public Interest Alberta (PIA) is a province-wide, non-profit, and non-partisan organization dedicated to advocating for public interest issues. Our mission is to promote a deeper understanding of the essential role public spaces, services, and institutions play in the lives of Albertans. We strive to cultivate a robust network of individuals and organizations united in the pursuit of advancing the public good.
We believe that the primary responsibility of the Alberta government is to uphold the collective well-being of its citizens. This commitment demands an unwavering focus on equity, accessibility, and democratic principles in both society and its institutions.
Since our founding in June 2004, PIA has worked alongside our network of member organizations and individuals to champion a wide range of initiatives, including:
-
Advancing Public Spaces & Services: Developing strategies to preserve and enhance Alberta's public institutions and spaces, ensuring they remain accessible and beneficial to all.
-
Coordinated Political Advocacy: Leading collective actions to address pressing public interest issues at local and provincial levels.
-
Research & Knowledge Sharing: Gathering and disseminating relevant research, media coverage, and information to inform our members and the wider public about key public interest topics.
-
Conducting New Research: Driving original research to explore and highlight the importance of public services and their impact on Alberta’s future.
We invite individuals and organizations who share our vision to join us in shaping a more equitable, accessible, and democratic Alberta. Together, we can make a lasting impact on the public interest and ensure a thriving, inclusive future for all Albertans.
