Post-Secondary is the Answer.
Alberta thrives on hard work, innovation, and opportunity. But today, our future is at risk. From apprenticeships to engineering, nursing to trades, every industry depends on a strong post-secondary education (PSE) system.
The UCP Government has cut over 600 Million dollars from schools, colleges, and universities since 2019. This year, they're cutting student aid and not investing in more spaces for doctors, nurses, teachers and other professions. At the same time, they're giving millions of dollars to private interests like Makami College. It doesn't add up.
We must protect and invest in the schools, colleges, and universities that build our workforce and protect Alberta's future.
📢 Alberta needs strong education to protect our future. We must act now.
Why This Matters for Alberta's Future
✅ Protecting our Future
The best way Alberta can secure its future is to invest in Albertans by building up the workforce of tomorrow. We are already short thousands of nurses, teachers, and doctors. Our schools, colleges and universities need to be affordable and high quality so that Alberta stays strong.
✅ Trades & Apprenticeships Matter
Electricians, welders, mechanics, nurses—our economy depends on highly trained professionals. If we don’t invest in training, Alberta won’t have the workforce we need to grow.
✅ Universities Drive Innovation and Economic Growth
University research fuels Alberta’s economy, leading to breakthroughs in energy, healthcare, and technology. Cuts to funding threaten Alberta’s ability to stay competitive in global research, business development, and job creation. A strong university system helps develop new industries that will drive long-term prosperity.
✅ Keeping Our Best Workers in Alberta
Young Albertans are leaving the province for better opportunities elsewhere. Affordable education and quality training will keep our future workforce right here at home.
✅ Stronger Communities, Stronger Economy
From oil and gas to tech, construction to healthcare, every major industry relies on a steady pipeline of skilled workers. A strong education system strengthens our economy and communities.
✅ Fair Wages & Good Jobs for Educators
Working conditions are classroom conditions. The people training Alberta’s workforce—whether in colleges, polytechnics, or universities—deserve fair wages and job security. If we don’t support them, we can’t train the workers Alberta needs.
📢 Post-secondary education is more than just universities—it’s the backbone of Alberta’s workforce.
What’s Happening?
🚨 Tuition is skyrocketing – Higher costs mean fewer students can afford to train for the jobs Alberta needs. Student loans are being cut - from 1.2 B to 900 M
🚨 Cuts to public education – Colleges, trades schools, and universities are being squeezed while private institutions profit.
🚨 Job precarity for educators – The people training the next generation are working without fair pay or job security.
We can’t afford to lose skilled workers to other provinces. We can’t afford to underfund education. We can’t afford to fall behind.
