Every child in Alberta deserves access to high-quality public education. Yet, public schools are being starved of resources while private institutions receive significant public funding. Alberta allocates 70% of per-student instructional grants to private schools—one of the highest subsidies in Canada—draining funds from public schools, overcrowding classrooms, and diminishing resources for students who need them most. Furthermore, under the new school construction accelerator program, Alberta will also be the first province to fund the construction of private school buildings.

Public education is a pillar of our democratic society, built on equal access for all, regardless of income or background. Unlike private and charter schools, which select their students, public schools open their doors to every child in our communities.

It's time to put public dollars back where they belong: in Alberta’s public schools. We call on the government to prioritize funding for smaller class sizes, more teachers, essential support staff, and the construction of new schools to serve our growing population.

Supporting public education isn’t just fair—it’s essential for a strong, equitable society.
